10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects

outdoor spring cleaning

Spring cleaning isn’t fun for most of us. But it is important. As the holidays and winter end and we start looking forward to spring and warmer weather, something inside of us tells us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and throwing away things we’ve hoarded over the winter.

But who says spring cleaning is only for the interior of your home?
The outside of your home could likely use some refreshing after a cold, dreary winter, too!

It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning

Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will really improve the appearance of your home in Boca Raton, and, more importantly, will offer much-needed maintenance and care that will save you money in years to come.

1. Gutter Cleaning

Spring is the ideal time to clean your gutters, since so many of leaves and debris pile up during the fall and winter. Pollen is at its highest during spring, making a mess in your gutters if they aren’t properly cleaned.

Plus, bugs and animals are looking for places to build their homes during spring, so getting your gutters cleaned will help to stop an infestation in your home.

Gutter cleaning will consist of cleaning the inside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew and stains and returning them to a like-new appearance.

2. Window Cleaning

Residential window cleaning is necessary for spring cleaning. Ground floor windows will not give you much of a headache, but any second and third floor windows will be tougher to reach.

Cleaning windows by hand is an exhausting chore, and it will need a lot of supplies, not to mention going up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your exterior windows is the perfect way to get the panes and the outer frame clean.

3. Pressure Washing

You don’t want clean gutters and windows on a dirty home. That means you will want to pressure wash your home too!

Pressure washing is quick, effective and doesn’t cost too much. You can pressure clean your home, outdoor furniture, patios, porches and walkways with very little effort. It will remove dirt and mud so they will not stain your home, and you can also stop the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.

4. Driveway Cleaning

Clearing off your home’s driveway and giving it a good cleaning may seem counter-productive since you’ll still be driving on it, but actually, a clean, maintained driveway can increase the curb appeal of your home.

A professional pressure washer can do wonders when it comes to driveway cleaning, whether it’s pavement, asphalt, brick or some other material. Also think about adding a gravel border to your home’s driveway to really make it pop!

5. Patio Cleaning

Your home’s patio probably gets the most use throughout the summer, so it’s easy to forget about it during the winter since you aren’t doing a lot of outdoor entertaining, relaxing or grilling. Your patio can be in pretty bad condition the first time you step onto it in spring.

Soap and water – and a little muscle – are sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if you see signs of mold or algae, you may need to think about a more aggressive option, like professional power washing, to ensure that friends and family can safely enjoy your patio all summer long.

6. Roof Cleaning

Algae and moss are common home roof issues in Boca Raton. While you’re cleaning the outside of your home, it’s an excellent time to pressure clean your home’s roof too, but you’ll need to use a different method than what you use for the rest of your home’s exterior.

If you start to see streaks on your home’s roof, algae is most likely the reason. Moss is fairly obvious, too. These particles can’t be wiped off shingles, nor can you pressure wash the roof of your home. Both of these methods will ruin the shingles on your home’s roof.

The ideal method for roof cleaning is to spray the shingles with a half-bleach, half-water mixture and then leave it sit. This solution will eliminate all organisms on your home’s roof without reducing its lifespan.

7. Tidy up the Front

The front of your home is likely what most people passing by see, so try to make the best impression you can for visitors, neighbors and for yourself! Coming home to a clean exterior will instantly improve your day, and it will even encourage you to spend more time outside.

You can clean your porch with soap and water or a good pressure wash. Clean cobwebs and mud off of the front door, and think about painting it for a really fresh look! Clean forgotten areas such as the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.

8. Organize Outdoor Tools

You’ll soon be spending more time outdoors, so spring is an excellent chance to organize whatever you’ll need for outdoor work.

Gardening tools and pool care equipment must all have an assigned place outside your home – a place that it is safe from harsh weather and not in sight so it isn’t a constant eyesore. Spending the time to organize in the spring allows you to appreciate the outside of your home much more throughout the time of year that you are going to spend the most time outside.

9. Lawn Care & Landscaping

Your lawn, trees and bushes can make a major impact on the overall look of your home.

Get rid of weeds around your flower beds and walkways and driveway, till up places where you’ll be planting later on and sweep off walkways. You can also spray pre-emergent weed poison to make lawn care easier on yourself throughout the summer. Trim all bushes too.

10. Clean the Grill

After being unused for several months, your grill could use a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food particles from your grill are unappetizing, but even worse they can also make you and your family sick.

Wipe it down to get rid of ash, then scrub the grates with a scrubber or grill brush (so you don’t leave behind metal particles that can get into food) and a detergent or degreaser.

You could probably complete all of these jobs after a few weekends but it will be a lot of tough work. Instead, give us a call! Boca Raton Pressure Washing provides professional residential exterior cleaning services for patio cleaning, roof cleaning, driveway cleaning, pressure washing and more!
